Internal Refurbishment at the Midlands Regional Hospital Laois

The Midland Regional Hospital at Portlaoise is a 151 bedded acute hospital serving the catchment areas of Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Carlow and Tipperary. The hospital was established in 1936, and is currently part of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group.

This Project involved the internal refurbishment of the following areas;

  • Area 1 – Delivery ward – 2nd floor
  • Area 2 – Theatre – 1st floor
  • Area 3 – Surgical Ward – 1st floor
  • Area 4 – Corridors main
  • Area 5 – On call
  • Area 6 – Pharmacy
  • Area 7 – Administration – corridor ceiling refurbishment
  • Area 8 – Block Road Boiler House Refurbishment

The mechanical services were refurbished in these areas and be integrated with existing hospital campus systems including LPHW Heating, Water Services, above ground soils & wastes and BMS, and the work were carried out under the form of Conditions set out in the Public Works Contract for Building Works Designed by the Employer.

The site of the works was located within grounds of the Acute Hospital which were particularly busy with patients, employees and visitors to the Hospital.  The surrounding and adjacent hospital departments continued to function as normal whilst the works were in progress.
